WEEK 12
Week 12 is the last week and launching week. All the results of preparation and hard work is going to be showed to the indigenous children and pass finally pass maintenance responsible to the person in charge in Serendah Village.
There are few preparations that we need to do on the launching day which is decoration of the venue, cleaning the floors and tables, prepare the foods and tableware. All of the students in Group 1 decided to go earlier for the preparation.
We arrived the library at 10.30 am . When first step into the library, the environment is so much comfortable and the condition of the furniture and the interior be improved a lot. When I sat down, I can feel the atmosphere that feel like want to study. Warm lighting tone, new and sturdy tables and chairs,all the books are be categorized in different type of books with color coding.
We started of with making the launching gimmick.All of the materials already be purchased the day before. Total of 9 VIP are going to involve in the launching ceremony so we prepared 10 sets to prevent any accident will happens.
Except for decorating, we also helped out other group such as helping to check the height of the banner and passing the hammer and tools to whoever that needed help. During the launching day, I feel that the spirit of teamwork among us is be strengthen. We never complain and differentiate the responsible and helping each other as one team. All of our aim was trying to create a space that is as clean and comfortable as possible before passing the space to the indigenous peoples and the children.
Around 12 o'clock, the children were starting to come and visit the library. They are very curious what was happening and some of them even climb through the window and peek inside. That was the first time for the children to see the transformed library.From their expression and reaction, we knew that they were excited and surprise of the transform. We offer some snacks and balloon to the early bird kids and we also enjoy ice- cream together beside the road. It was a memorable and special moment.
The tables and chairs need to be rearranged so that everyone is be able to take the food in the middle and be able to place the projector in front of the white board to play the video.In the mean time, I tried to show around the learning tools to the kids that came earlier. I was confused at first as they were not talking Bahasa Melayu. I think that they were speaking in the indigenous language. Hence, I tried to communicate with them with lame body language. It Works!
Before the launching time, guests were coming continuously. They were invited to have a seat the the first row of the seats where the children were sitting at the left and right side bean bag area. While waiting, Jordan, our MC lead them to sing and dance. At first they were too shy to sing and at the end they were braver to join and sing it out loud. I think that this kind of activities should held more in the mini library to encourage the reading and study mood of the children.
The launching ceremony was very successful, Mr Edwin , Miss Norji, Represent from Yayasan and the leader of Serendah Village had given a very inspiring speech. My feelings during that time was very complicated as the event that we join for 12 weeks to collect books and stationary for group 1 had come to the end of journey. I felt excited and sad. I really hope that the library really be able to change someone's life with reading and gaining knowledge through books. Every smile on their face is priceless and all of the efforts are worth it!
